Appendix 3 - Recreating Drive Labels
IfthereisaMissingDiskintheDataDriveSetandthatsamedriveappearsineitherthe“RawDrives”or
“OtherFibreChannelDrives”DriveGroupsthenthereisachancethatthedriveisnotbad,butsimplyhaslost
itsassignedUnityLabel.
Usethefollowingprocedurewhen
attemptingtoreapplytheappropriatelabeltothisdrive.Ifitissuccessful,
theFileManagerservicewillonceagainrecognisethedriveandbringitbackintotheDataDriveSet:
1. LaunchSetupManager(seeAppendix2
)anddeterminethattheMissingDiskisappearinginRawor
OtherFibreChannelDrives
2. NavigatetotheAvidUnitydirectoryontheMediaEngine(normallyD:\ProgramFiles\Avid
Technology\AvidUnity)
3. LocateandLaunchRecoverDisks.exe
4. OncetheGUIhasopened,clickontheOpenFilebutton
5. Selectthefile
RecoveryInfo.datfileandopenit
6. WithintheRecoverDiskswindowalistofdriveswillappear
7. ChecktheACTIONcolumn. Whenadriveisrecognized,thewords“LABELOKAY"appearunderthis
heading.Whenadrivehaslostitslabel,thewords"REGENNEEDED"willappear.
8. IfREGEN
NEEDEDappearsnexttoanydrive,scrolldowntothebottomofthewindowandclickon
theCOMMITCHANGESbutton.
9. Iftheprocessissuccessful,theDISPOSITIONcolumnwillthensay“NOCHANGE”nexttoalldrives
whichsayLabelOkay,and“UPDATED"nexttothedrivewhichsaid
“RegenNeeded”.
10. LaunchSetupManagerandselectREFRESHDISPLAYfromunder theDRIVESETmenu.
Thedrivewillnolongerappearunder“RawDrives”or“OtherFibreChannelDrives”andthe“MissingDisk”
descriptionwillalsobegone.Thedrivehasregaineditslabelandisonceagainpartof
theDataDriveSet.
NOTE: IfthisprocessdoesnotsuccessfullyreapplythelabeltotheMissingDisk,thentheremaybea
moreseriousissuewiththisdriveandnormalUnityDrivetroubleshootingproceduresshouldbe
followed.
